Hello.....St Jude's Website.....
My maiden name was Jacqueline Blake - for the past 26 years my married name has been Whittaker.
I have recently come across your website whilst showing my 10 year old daughter my old haunts....
It's a fantastic web site and has given me some ideas for the website of my own church.....St Peters, Newton-le-Willows.  It was great to reminisce........
I started schooling at St Josephs Primary School (Mrs Reddington Headmistress and Miss Clough Infant Teacher) and can remember what it was like eating school
dinners in the 'Nissan Huts' and worshipping at St Joseph's (where my father James Blake-deceased-was an altar boy).   My daughter is astounded that I had to use outside toilets at the school and can't believe I used chalk and boards and quill pens - she refers to them as the 'old days' - well I suppose to her they are.  From St Josephs Junior School I went to the Grammar School near to the Tesco Superstore site for a short while before it shut down and was moved to St Thomas More.  I have fond memories of Sister Julie, Sister Rose and Mr Wilde at both schools' and Father Tobin at St Judes' Church. I have been looking at your photograph links and it made me smile that things haven't changed that much.....the confirmation breakfast photo's of 2006/7 were similar to those taken of me and my siblings David, Susan and Andrea Blake in the 1970's.
On a rare visit to Wigan I was sad to see that St Thomas More School had been knocked down and all that was left standing was the music room door - I suppose time and tide wait for no man......Your website has prompted me to return to St Judes' for a visit and I will look forward to worshipping in and showing my daughter the beautiful church of St Jude that I took for granted as a child.
God bless to you all.....
Jacqui Whittaker

Very Rev Canon, A wonderful Easter Message, The sound was clear and precise,I celebrated Good Friday [Stations of the cross plus Veneration of same] and Easter Sunday

Yes Christ had risen in a Church said to have been built by St Paul himself in Northern Cyprus. All the services were done by the Benidictine Monks,It was amazing that in a Muslim country we had some 60 or more worshipers at each service.Thank you for your time in preparing and reading out the Easter Message.

Albert.

Happy St. Patrick's Day and most certainly please have a blessed Easter.  We are in our Florida home and will miss the good times and family times in Watertown.  But, we will return home on April 8th.  We have escaped some of the bad winter in MA and are enjoying the Florida sunshine.

We think the website is very well done .  Your Easter message is very welcoming.

Angela Cunningham - Wigan

I have just come across your excellent website.  Congratulations to all who have contributed and to the mastermind of the site. I have lots of old photos of St Joseph’s especially of the Whit walks and the operatic society productions in the 1920s and 1930s.

Our family was very much involved in parish life from its inception.  Our grand father Joseph Cunningham was one of the first babies to be baptized by Fr Lamon in the new parish of St Joseph’s.  He later became caretaker of the Elementary School in Hodson Street.  He directed the operatic productions which were performed in the Parish Hall and he also took part in them together with his son Joseph and his daughter Peggy.

Our maternal grandfather, Walter Whittle began the SVP in the parish and organized the annual parish balls held at the Empress Hall.

Our dad, Joseph was the choir master and conducted the choir in four part Masses every Sunday at 11am.  We have a photo of him conducting the massed bands on the Market Square as everyone sang Faith of Our Fathers.

There is lots more I could tell you about the people of St Joseph’s.

192 21/12/06 "From your American family - the Colmans"

Merry Christmas!   Your Christmas message is lovely and also inspiring.  As I read it I could not help but reflect that sermons here in the USA  should be as good as your message .  Simple and thoughtful. We will have a lovely Christmas.  On the eve we will go to Stephanie's house to celebrate with Bernard's family.   We will probably go to midnight Mass at St. Patrick's.  Our St. Jude's has a 4:00 and a 10.   the early one mostly for the young and the later one will be too early for us. On Christmas Day, we will go to Freddie's house for dinner.  They have Glen's family and us(the newly weds too).   This has become our tradition.  I have about 20 here for our Thanksgiving in November.  Then, I have it easy.  Of course, I have to cook a small turkey for the 25th. Aunt Julia is ticking along, just the same as before but just a little deafer.         Merry Christmas!

191 4/12/06 ALBERT ECKERSLEY - Wigan [allber@blueyonder.co.uk]

Dear Canon, Thank you for your inspiring Advent Message I hope many people log on to read it. It embraces all that we should be thinking about at this special time of preparation for the most outstanding event that the World has and will ever witness. The Birth of Our Saviour The Lord of the Universe and yet to show us how to be humble, chose to be Born in a Stable. Albert Eckersley.

You certainly earned this investiture, Fr. Pat. Nice to see Sr. Bernadette and her friend in the pictures. Has a lovely scarf.  She loves scarves.  When I look at you, think of my Dad;
you look so much like him and not related. Don't see the Carrs much. Tenant downstairs is  a Carr by marriage, but don't know who her husband was or is. Louise Carr Napoli passed away a few months ago. Only contact I had with her is her niece, Barbara Boznowski who lives in Medway Mass. Miss visiting Ann. She was special. Haven't visited Julie lately; her kids are very supportive.....Helen Kelley lives in the complex next door. Don't think she gets out often. Her daughter is very attentive, and they have a lovely daughter, Julie.

apologies for not writing since July of 2006. No excuse only that I am a busy women for an old maidl ladies wonder what they do with themselves when then retire. Not me.
active in our parish, brazilians taking over what was once an Italian church at the corner of my street where I lived for many years. where our old home was is a parish center which cost 950K at the time.old neighborhood has changed; only 4 houses and one american family and 3 salvadorians. do a good job of keeping their home up. Active with the Golden Rays which meets every tuesday am; have verious functions which support our parish. go on trips; last week to Holyoke for a lobster dinner and show. this week breakfast at a local club, the Colubms Club, all italian.we have that Neo Catechumen Way. ever hear of it. do a catechesis for 10 weeks; 2 weeks ago went on a retreat in Andover. folks that have never been on retreat complained about the beds, food..... was not a hotel;  ran by the Franciscan Fathers.was wonderful. every wed nite the Neo Cat prepare the liturgy; we have teams that takes turns; sat nite we have to prepare the liturgy for the Mass. the team makes the bread which is consecrated. some folks say "doesnt this group divided the community". certainly not. if one never had spirituality in his childhood or life, has certainly got it now. but parochial school taught me and my mom. I just love it.in my time didnt have much of the old testament and studying it in my old age.we have functions periodically like agape. get tired of cooking sometimes. dont cook like this for myself. so in order to prepare for the liturgy wed and sat nites, the assigned team has to meet another nite. in some pictures you are using a cane. do you still use one. i need one but keep trucking. my back kills me; arthritis, have to have something to pay for my purification.

dr at spaulding ctr gives me meds for pain and muscles which helps very much. never see the carrs. should get to see julie. i miss visiting ann. go to her grave often.
at st stephens, fr burt is now a moderator and has a parochial vicar. good for him.
he was burnt out and is around my age. fr emerson at st timothys in residence in norwood.
fr borges has a parish now,and was in retirement, but does great. old times at st stephens passing away.not too much irish. lots of spanish the little restaurant you used to visit is now owned by brazilians. in fact all the stores downtown, not too many speak english.
some americans resent it. but we are all products of immigrants. my maternal grandmother came from mayo. came to the us on a boat when she was 8 to live with her grandmother.
my maternal grandfather; records ust say he came fromi ireland. my paternal grandparents born in this country. used to walk to church in framingham from so natick mass.
such loyalty to God. daily schedule; go mass every day and then to dunkin to meet my friends for coffeechat and munchkins.... have to quit them. connect with my sister's kids in fla and their kids and grandchildren.they all went to fripp island  sc for a week to celebrate fathers day been going since 1991; when my brother in law was diagnosed with colon cancer. he pass away on christmas of the same year. one niece rents all the homes; they have food service for 3 days also. he is like a philanthropist.... has paid for all my sisters grandchildren for college. one more to go
and one that didnt want togo. is a successful plasterer, bricklayer. we cant all go to college so that is the story of my life. not much travellign since i hurt a lot. bye for now, pat. you looked great in the pictures. think of my dad when i vew you in the pics. and you are not even related. you could pass for him when he was your young age. love you bunches and hugs and prayers, and love to sr. bernardette. dottie

181 30/1/06 Ian McLoughlin/Wigan I wondered if you can help me? I've noticed from my visits how vibrant your website is (congratulations!) and wondered if you had any knowledge or contact with the people behind the St Patrick's site? It seems to be dormant now, which is a real pity as I am very interested in this church and would love to kow more. Also there doesn't appear to be a site for St Mary's / St John's; is this due to there being no-one in the congregation willing or able to put the time and effort in?

As originally brought up in the Wigan area, I remember as a child going to Mass once or twice to St Joseph's (not our usual Parish.) Also remember the new St Jude's when first built, my best friend lived in Carr Lane which was very near to the Church. My cousin Molly Walsh\Fouracre belonged to St Joseph's and sang in the Wigan area for many years (I think she still does some charity singing). Brilliant sight, only wish I could have shared part of the "history". Bless you all.

I was searching for some confirmation of the validity of St. Jude with the Catholic Church. My son is Catholic (I taught in a Catholic school for 7 years though I never joined the church), he has been in a difficult medical situation and I've been praying to St. Jude as helper of the 'impossible" and "lost causes". I just wanted to make sure St. Jude is indeed sanctioned by the Catholic Church and that it is ok for me to ask for his intercedence. Nice website, wonderful invitation opening from Father Pat.

Last May I contacted St Jude Parish for prayers for my recovery. I needed to be operated on for a 2nd time for thyroid cancer. at that time I was told there would be a possibility that I would lose my voice permantly. Not a good prospect. I asked for prayers for my successful operation. I was operated on on June 11. I did not lose my voice, and the surgeon indicated they got it all. July 28 I have to see a radiation oncologist because I have to have radioactive iodine treatment, a standard procedure.
