Father Andrew was born in Chorley and received his early education at St. Gregory's Primary School and then he studied at the Catholic College, Preston. |

| He trained for the priesthood at St. Mary's Seminary, Oscott and then the Beda College in Rome. Whilst in Rome, he studied for a degree in theology at the University of St. Thomas Aquinas, known as the Angelicum. | |

| He was ordained deacon on 19th March, 1998 at St. Mary's, Wigan, where he remained until his priestly ordination, also at St. Mary's, on 18th September, 1998. | |
| He was appointed as assistant priest at St. Jude's in October 1998 and remained there until November 2000, before being transferred to Sacred Heart, Wigan. | |
